About Me
I am the Assistant Director of Residential Life for Programming and Engagement at California State University, Monterey Bay, formerly Assistant Director for Care and Support, Residential Life Coordinator for Area 2, North Quad, and East Campus, and an Area Coordinator at the University of Vermont. I am originally from California’s central valley region, Monterey, and began my undergraduate studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara later receiving a master's degree at the University of Southern California. I have extensive Residential Education experience within public and private universities. Previously, I served as a Graduate Hall Coordinator at Occidental College, leading their RA Recruitment and Selection committee and overseeing four themed living communities.
I am passionate about pursuing a career within student affairs administration to support students, so they may succeed in their time within higher education. As a first-generation, Mexican female college student from a low socioeconomic background I relied heavily on the guidance of my mentors within the field of student affairs to gain my identity and voice, and I hope to instill that level of confidence in the students I interact with on a daily basis. As an undergraduate student I served as a paraprofessional in the Office of Housing and Residential Services at the UC Santa Barbara for three years, responsible for a variety of tasks from advising groups of varying size to implementing educational and social programming for all students within the residence halls (5,000+ resident population).
My educational philosophy is driven by assistantships I held throughout my time in the Postsecondary Administration and Student Affairs (PASA) program at the University of Southern California's Rossier School of Education and my professional roles at public institutions. These experiences have broadened my view on how I may use my identities to support students from multiple communities and fuel my passion for social justice and inclusion. I realize it is my responsibility to not only help elevate students while they are in college but to also ensure they leave my care prepared to change the society around them. Thus, my vision was subsequently born.
