Future Goals
I seek to provide students from marginalized communities the tools for social ascension and I hope to achieve this goal by serving as a highly intentional professional, learning campus culture, student needs, and common practices among staff and faculty at every institution I serve. I will help students from marginalized communities throughout their higher education journey, instilling a love for civic engagement, so they may use their experiences to help others within the communities they identify with. My overarching goal is to inspire students to advocate for social justice and use the tools I provide them to become the change our society needs, to not only elevate themselves, but their communities for future generations.
In the next 5 years, I will…
-
Focus on leadership initiatives for students from underrepresented backgrounds.
-
Be within the intermediate phase of every ACPA/NASPA professional competency.
-
Develop a civic engagement model to enhance global citizenship
In the next 10 years, I will…
-
Begin to establish a family, developing strong ties to my community.
-
Have a doctorate degree.
-
Publish research pertaining to student success for students from underrepresented backgrounds.
-
Be teaching at least one course to graduate students pursuing degrees in higher education and student affairs.
In the next 20 years, I will…
-
Have written a book that follows my journey as a student affairs professional, including relevant research to provide first generation students a resource for how to maximize their time within higher education and succeed post-graduation.
-
Hold a position as a senior student affairs officer.
-
Serve as a chair of a professional organization.
-
Be on my way to becoming a Pillar of the Profession.
